Millions of Muslims offered Friday prayers in Tongi on the first day of World Ijtema. The prayer seeks the peace of the Muslim Ummah. At least 50 countries have joined it.
After Fajr prayer in the morning, the first phase of the 3-day World Ijtema begins with Am Bayan. However, even before this, Tongi’s Turag shore became popular with the footfall of millions of Muslims from the country and abroad.
As always, on the first day of Ijtema, a large congregation of Jumma prayers was held at Turag bank. Devotees from Dhaka and surrounding districts flocked to Turag shore to offer prayers along with lakhs of people. The pilgrims said that they prayed in a large congregation in the hope of receiving more blessings and prayers.
A worshiper offering prayers said, ‘Jamaat with lakhs of worshipers. I prayed in this congregation. I prayed for all the devotees. I prayed for the people of the world. I prayed for guidance. I prayed for the Muslims of Palestine. We prayed for the honorable Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, the official speech resumed immediately after the Friday prayers. The supporters of Maulana Zobair, who were stationed in Maidan divided into 105 Khitas, listened attentively to the speech. More than 1,000 pilgrims from more than 50 countries have joined this 57th edition.
A foreign pilgrim who joined the Ijtema said, ‘I have also visited the markets here. I am trying to understand the culture of this country along with religious issues. It is organized by Muslims. I am here first. People of this country are very sincere. Hopefully, I will get a chance to come again.’
Meanwhile, the administration has taken various initiatives to make Ijtema a success. Executive magistrates are working alongside the police to maintain law and order.
Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Abul Fate Mohammad Safiqul Islam said, ‘Metropolitan Police, RAB, intelligence agency people will be in overall security. Also there will be various volunteers from fire service and city corporation. Ijtema also has its own volunteer force. We have appointed executive magistrates at 5 points, Ijtema Maidan and two railway stations.’
The last prayer of this Ijtema of the first stage is on Sunday. Then the episode of Saad Kandhalvi’s followers will start on February 9.
