President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Mahbubul Alam urged the business community to be united to advance the country’s economy on the path of prosperity by keeping in mind the motto ‘Politics belongs to everyone, economy belongs to everyone’.

Mahbubul Alam said, ‘Businessmen are the lifeblood of the country’s economy. Businessmen are playing a very important role in advancing the economy of Bangladesh. To advance the country’s economy, businessmen should forget all differences and work unitedly to make the country prosperous. Starting from small, medium, large industrialists, businessmen of all levels of the country should be united. He also commented that there is no alternative to move the business community forward to move the country’s economy forward, forgetting about political violence and differences.

FBCCI president said, ‘Businessmen of the country want to conduct their business properly. A business friendly environment is very important for the expansion of business, trade and investment in the country. At this time, he urged the political parties to refrain from intolerant activities ahead of the national elections to keep the country’s business, trade and economy moving.

The FBCCI president said these words while addressing the traders at the annual general meeting (2022-2023) of FBCCI held at Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Convention Hall in the capital on Saturday afternoon.

As a result of the economic crisis created in the current global geopolitical context, the negative impact on the overall economic activities of Bangladesh has already started, Mahbubul Alam said, ‘Our businessmen are facing the biggest loss. Besides, in 2026, trade related conditions and policies have to be gradually modernized to meet the challenges of transition to developing countries. In this regard, various issues such as cross-border trade and connectivity, investment, private sector recommendations for building a smart Bangladesh, customs and taxation, infrastructure, supply chain and logistics support, energy, impact of climate change, fourth industrial revolution, technical and vocational and technical education etc. He also commented that it is important to present the views and recommendations of the private sector at the policy-making level.

Mahbubul Alam also said, ‘The current board of directors has taken responsibility with the manifesto of building a smart FBCCI to ensure the participatory representation of the private sector by uniting with the Prime Minister’s determination to build a smart Bangladesh. In continuation of this e-Bulletin is being published every month to inform the members of the General Assembly about the regular activities of FBCCI. A dynamic, user-friendly and interactive digital website has been introduced to create FBCCI. Besides, FBCCI’s office has been expanded in Gulshan with the aim of creating a smart office to modernize and speed up FBCCI’s activities to build a developed and prosperous Smart Bangladesh by 2041.

The FBCCI President highlighted the various initiatives taken by the current Board of Directors for the welfare of traders since taking charge. Plans to open a new branch office in Old Dhaka and set up a vocational center in Uttara, open FBCCI’s extended office in Gulshan, inaugurate the FBCCI Innovation and Research Center, receive a maximum installment of Tk 50 lakh for women entrepreneurs without a male guarantor, and extend the income tax submission deadline by 2 months. Mahbubul Alam highlighted the role of the current board of directors in protecting the private sector of the country through advocacy.

Minutes of last Annual General Meeting, Annual Report of FBCCI 2022-23, Audit Report of Income and Expenditure of FBCCI and appointment of auditor to a new institution were unanimously approved.

The members of the General Assembly present at the Annual General Meeting give their well-thought-out views on various issues. The FBCCI President listened to their speech with keen attention and presented to them the initiatives and plans of the Board of Directors on the related issues.
