Due to dense fog, the flight movement was disrupted at Syedpur Airport in Nilphamari from Sunday morning to noon. Flight departures are stopped from 8 am on Sunday.
More than 300 Dhaka-bound passengers of four flights of private companies including Bangladesh Biman were stranded in this till 1 pm. However, the airport authorities said that there is no danger of cancellation of any flight.
Lokman Hossain, in-charge of Meteorological Office of Syedpur Airport, said that the airport area has been covered by thick fog since midnight on Saturday. The airport must have a visual range of 2,000 meters for take-off and landing. Dense fog may take longer to clear.
Syedpur Airport Manager Suplab Kumar Ghosh said that due to thick fog, flights have been disrupted at the airport. Between 8:30 AM and 11:30 AM, four flights of private aircraft including Biman Bangladesh were scheduled to land at Syedpur Airport. However, there is no possibility of flight cancellation. Flight operations will be normal once the fog clears.
Meanwhile, Zainal Abedin, a Dhaka-bound passenger of a private plane at the airport, said that he has been staying at the airport since 9 am. Due to dense fog, I am not able to reach Dhaka on time due to suspension of air traffic.
