Leaders and activists of Awami League and its affiliates held a protest march and road meeting to protest against the killing of Lalon Fakir (28), an activist of AKMA Awal, an independent candidate for Pirojpur-01 constituency in the upcoming National Assembly elections. On Thursday afternoon, organized by Awami League, a huge procession came out from the Town Club Road of the city and after circling the various roads of the city, it went to Bangabandhu Chattar at the CO Office intersection and met in the road meeting.
General Secretary of Sadar Thana Awami League Rezaul Karim Sikder Montu, Municipal Awami League President Sadullah Liton, Jubo League leader Irtiza Hasan Raju, Volunteer League General Secretary Suman Sikder, District Chhatra League Vice President Bari Talukder Joyen and others spoke at the rally.
The speakers demanded that those involved in Lalan’s murder should be brought to book and punished.
Meanwhile, after the murder of Lalon Fakir, it has been alleged that the police filed a case as plaintiff without taking the case of the family members. The family of the deceased Lalon claimed that the police did this under the pressure of opponents to protect those involved in the incident. On the night of December 12, the police mentioned the names of 5 people including Babu as the plaintiff and 6-7 others as unknown accused.
Hannan Fakir, the father of deceased Lalon, complained that he went to the police station to file a case, but the police did not take their case. To protect many involved in the incident, the police have filed a case as plaintiffs themselves for unknown reasons. After seriously injuring Lalon, he told the police that he would return from Dhaka and file a case at the police station. Later, after going to the police station, the police did not take up his case.
However, denying the complaint, Additional Superintendent of Police of Pirojpur Sheikh Mostafizur Rahman said, “The family of the deceased Lalon did not come to file the case on time, so the police filed the case as plaintiff. However, Lalan’s relatives can add more accused through the court if they want.’
It is to be noted that on December 9, MP of Pirojpur-01 Constituency AKMA Awal, on his way home from a meeting, Lalon Fakir was seriously injured by an opponent in Shariktala Union. Lalon Fakir died two days later in a hospital in Dhaka.
