Three fishmongers were killed when a pickup lost control and collided with a tree on the Sunamganj-Sylhet road. Apart from this, the driver of the pickup and his assistant were injured. This accident happened in Barkapan area of Chatak Upazila of Sunamganj on Tuesday morning.
Those killed in the accident are Nurul Haque (45) of Sakitpur village of Dirai upazila of Sunamganj, Abdul Karim (57) of Ukargaon village of Shantiganj upazila and Asab Uddin of Jamalganj upazila. The victims are fishmongers.
The injured are the driver. Jahangir (30) and his assistant. Shahinur Mia (18). Both of their homes are in Jibdara village of Shantiganj upazila.
The police and locals said that on Tuesday morning, the fish traders left Sunamganj’s Jamalganj in a pickup for Sylhet’s Amakaji fish market. On reaching the Barkapan area of Chatak Upazila, the pickup lost control and collided with a tree. Two fish traders died on the spot. The driver of the pickup truck and another businessman were taken to Kaitak Hospital with serious injuries, where another businessman died there. The injured driver is being treated at the hospital.
Jaikals Highway police outpost in-charge Abdul Kabir said that the police and fire service went to the spot and rescued the injured and dead. The pickup vehicle was taken to the police station in the accident.
The officer-in-charge (OC) of Chatak police station confirmed the accident. Shah Alam said that the accident happened due to loss of control in Barkapan area. It is believed that the driver was sleepy.
