Pedestrian killed by autorickshaw in Netrakona, child injured

A woman pedestrian named Sakhina Begum (35) died after being hit by a CNG-driven auto-rickshaw at Kalmakanda in Netrakona. The child in the lap of the woman was injured. The accident took place in Bahadurkanda area of ‚Äč‚ÄčKalmakanda upazila on Thakurakona-Kalmakanda regional highway on Saturday afternoon.

Sakhina died on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital with serious injuries on Sunday afternoon.

Deceased Sakhina Begum is the daughter of deceased Injil Mia and wife of Sukon Mia of Khaspara village of Kalmakanda Sadar Union. The two-and-a-half-year-old child in Sakhina’s lap is under treatment at the Sultana Kalmakanda Upazila Health Complex.

OC of Kalmakanda Police Station. Lutful Haque said that Sakhina Begum was walking along the road with her child on Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, a speeding CNG-powered auto-rickshaw hit Sakhina and she fell with the child in her arms. Meanwhile, the locals rescued the mother and daughter in serious condition and sent them to the Upazila Health Complex. When Sakhina’s condition deteriorated there, her relatives were taking her to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital this afternoon for better treatment. Then Sakhina Begum died on the way. The driver fled with the auto-rickshaw immediately after the incident.

The OC also said that Sakhina’s body has been handed over to the family after the legal process.
