The body of the missing ferry engine driver Humayun Kabir was recovered 6 days after the Rajnigandha ferry sank near Paturia Ghat in Manikganj.
The body was recovered from Padma river in Bahadurpur area of Harirampur upazila, about eight kilometers from the spot on Monday afternoon.
According to the fire service, locals saw the body floating and informed the police. The body was later recovered from the river by the relatives who identified it.
Meanwhile, another truck was recovered during the 6th day of operation. So far 5 truck-covered vans have been recovered. A scanner ship named Jhenai-1 from Narayanganj took part in the 6th day’s operation. This vessel will help in locating the ferry that sank at the bottom of the river.
Rescue ships Pratyaya, Hamza and Rustam are also operating. BIWTA, Navy and Fire Service personnel are assisting in the operation.
The Rajnigandha ferry sank with 9 truck-covered vans on board when its floor burst, near ghat No. 5 in Paturia around 8 am last Wednesday.
Earlier, utility (small) ferry Rajnigandha left from Daulatdia end of Rajbari for Paturia last Tuesday midnight. The ferry was carrying nine cargo trucks and covered vans. The ferry got stuck in the Padma river near ghat number five of Paturia due to thick fog around 1.30 am. Ferry traffic was stopped to avoid accidents.
