Ever since the failure in the ODI World Cup, Pakistan’s cricket has been in turmoil. Babar Azam’s departure from captaincy, resignation of chief selector… What didn’t happen last year! Pakistan team management has arranged the team with a new plan leaving behind all those stories of failure. However, that failure was added to the tour of Australia. Shaheen Shah Afridi is on a tour of New Zealand with the taste of whitewash on the soil of Ajid.
Pakistan will take the field against New Zealand in a five-match T20 series from January 12. Before this, Pakistan cricket is again in the headlines. The PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) is going to fire three foreign coaches – head coach Grand Bradburn, team director Mickey Arthur and batting coach Andrew Puttick due to continuous failure.
Head coach Grant Bradburn has already resigned. PCB is also not keeping two other coaches Mickey Arthur and Andrew Putik. But the ‘Pakistani’ thing here is not the dismissal, but the manner of dismissal. Pakistan’s board has dismissed the three coaches because of a lot of helplessness! Citing a PCB official as a source, Indian media outlet NDTV wrote that three foreign coaches were spoken to by PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf and Chief Executive Officer Salman Nasir.
After the Asia Cup, it was heard that Pakistan was going to send off these three coaches when Pakistan failed in the World Cup. So why is there talk of firing them now, and why is there talk of indecisiveness?
The back story here is that after failure in Asia Cup and World Cup, Pakistan’s foreign coaches went on vacation. Their going on such leave was not taken well by the PCB. Besides, after making Mohammad Hafeez the director of the Pakistan team, Pakistan wanted to assign three foreign coaches to the National Cricket Academy. But none of them agreed.
The Pakistan board, however, was waiting to see if the contract of the three coaches would find any way to coach at the National Cricket Academy. But no such clause was found in the contract of three coaches with PCB. The PCB is going to lay off the Arthurs as there is no mention in the contract of the three coaches that they should be coached in the academy.
However, NDTV said that the process of retrenchment is being done with the agreement of both parties. Mickey Arthur and Putik are busy with new work after discussions with PCB. Bradburn joins as coach of county club Glamorgan. Batting coach Putik is going to sign a contract with Afghanistan. Arthur was previously associated with England’s county club Derbyshire. It is heard that Pakistan may pay them one or two months’ salary as compensation.
