On the occasion of the 12th National Assembly elections, there was an incident of vandalism at the extended meeting of the Pabna District Chhatra League. It has been alleged that a group of youth led by Pabna Sadar Upazila Chairman Mosharf Hossain’s son and former executive member of District Chhatra League Mustakim Muhib and former Chhatra League leader Sheesh Hasan carried out the attack. District Chhatra League president Mizanur Rahman Sabuj was injured.
This incident took place at the district Awami League office on Thursday afternoon.
Eyewitness BCL leaders said that the district BCL convened an extended meeting at the party office on Thursday to give instructions to the workers to win the Awami League nominated candidates in the 12th national parliament election. At the beginning of the meeting, a group of youths led by former Chhatra League leaders Mustaqeem Muhib and Sheesh Hasan came during the silence to pay respect on Martyred Intellectuals Day. Alleging that their advice was not taken in the organized meeting, District Chhatra League President Mizanur Rahman Sabuj and General Secretary Mir Rabiul Islam started threatening the border.
When they asked the visitors to sit down, they started vandalizing the chairs and tore the banners. President Sabuj tried to control the situation when the leaders started running away due to the sudden attack. At that time, when the angry former leaders hit the chair, Sabuj was injured. Later the district Awami League leaders normalized the situation and started the meeting again.
Pabna District Chhatra League General Secretary Mir Rabiul Islam Shimando said, ‘Some identified youths have publicly committed such shameful incidents. They are not members of the Chhatra League. Plannedly they tried to attack and hold meetings. We will discuss this matter with the central leaders and take action.’
Pabna District Chhatra League President Mizanur Rahman said, ‘Sadar Upazila Chairman Mosharf Hossain’s son Muhib is not active in Chhatra League. They attacked for no reason. We will take legal action against them.’
However, despite admitting the unpleasant incident, Mustaqeem Muhiber claimed that he was not involved in the attack. He said, ‘We have been associated with the Chhatra League for a long time. Years have passed since this president and secretary were elected, but they did not complete the committee. They also conduct various party activities in a dictatorial manner, keeping elections in front. We went to know why we are not being placed in the election committees. When they misbehaved with us during this time, some tension was created among the deprived workers. Calling the matter an attack, they are trying to take the incident in a different direction.’
In this incident, there is tension among BCL leaders and workers. Additional police have been deployed at the party office.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pabna Sadar Police Station Roshan Ali said, “An incident took place in the District Chhatra League meeting. Additional police have been deployed there. No one complained.’
