One injured in attack on Tangail boatman

Supporters of independent candidates have been accused of attacking boatmen in Tangail. This incident took place in Basakhanpur village of Tangail Sadar Upazila after Monday evening.

The injured person is Golam Hossain Rabbi son of deceased Asan Ali of Dainya Shivaram village of Tangail Sadar upazila.

The injured rabbi said, ‘In the afternoon, I was returning home with people from a procession to receive the symbol of the boat symbol candidate Advocate Mamunur Rashid. On the way, a group of 10/12 terrorists under the leadership of Siam and Rokon, supporters of current MP and independent candidate Chanwar Hossain, ambushed near the oil mill of Basakhanpur Jafar. Then Elapathari hit Elapathari with native weapons saying that he would be killed if he went to the boat marker procession or election.’

Mojibur Rahman, the brother of the injured, said, “The people of Chanowa MP used to threaten us. A sudden attack today. Local people brought the injured to Tangail General Hospital. Demanding punishment for the attack on my brother.’

Atiqul Islam, in-charge of Tangail General Hospital’s police outpost, said, ‘One person came to the hospital injured in the fight. Now the treatment is going on. Details will be known later.’

Mamunur Rashid Mamun Mamun, a candidate for the boat symbol, said, ‘The current MP independent candidate is attacking my workers with his supporters. A complaint will be made to the police station in this incident.’
