1335 cameras equipped with advanced technology artificial intelligence have been installed in 250 kilometers on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at a cost of 1.5 billion taka. 92 more will be seated soon. With the capital on one side and Bandarnagar on the other, the Dhaka-Chittagong highway is more important than any other road in the country. Many people call this highway of about two and a half kilometers as the lifeline of the economy. However, this highway is a major concern for the transportation of export goods.

According to police information, more than 200 cases of theft of export goods have occurred here in the last 10 years. Traders and transport owners have been demanding for a long time to take steps to prevent theft.

Installation of cameras will stop product theft, curb crime and reduce accidents. Sabotage attempts can be prevented, says the police. The highway police said that in this project at the cost of 1.5 billion taka, there will be round-the-clock surveillance on the highway from 5 control rooms.

Highway Police Chief Md Shahabuddin Khan said, ‘Also, there will be checkposts at important places on the highway. There will also be surveillance and high-tech artificial intelligence cameras. By analyzing the video data of all these cameras, we can work to suppress crime.

Highway cameras include high power long vision, dome and bulletproof. Control will be from 5 monitoring centers in Meghnaghat, Daudkandi, Feni, Mirsrai and Citygate areas. The main command center is at Meghnaghat.

Transport stakeholders have welcomed this initiative. Drivers say, ‘With these CCTV cameras, it will be easy to identify the exact time or culprit of any accident.’

In this regard, Sufiur Rahman, organizing secretary of Inter-District Goods Transport Company and Covered Van Owners Association, said, ‘If we have this CC camera, we will have a sense of security. Transport of goods worth thousands of crores of rupees has become more convenient through this road.

Meanwhile, the highway police is implementing the project. They said it would make it easier to identify and thwart the plans of vandals on the highway.
