The death toll has risen to three after a truck overturned in Mymensingh’s Bhaluka on the way home after the last prayer of Ijtema in Tongi. 12 people are under treatment in the hospital in this incident.
The deceased are the son of Abul Kalam Akand of Gafargaon upazila of the district. Naeem Akand (13), son of Farooq Khan, Sanaullah Sajal (19) and Fazlu Haque (18) of Pailabar area of Bhaluka, his father’s name is not known. All of them were students of Jamia Islamia Darus Sunnah Qaumi Madrasah of Bhaluka Upazila.
Hatim Khan, the founder of Jamia Islamia Darus Sunnah Qaumi Madrasa of Valuka Upazila, confirmed the matter and said that Naeem died at the accident site last night. The seriously injured Fazlu Haque died on the way to Dhaka for better treatment. Sanaullah Sajal passed away while undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital on Monday morning.
Mymensingh Medical College Hospital duty sub-inspector (SI) Jahangir Alam said that a total of 13 people were admitted to the hospital in the road accident in Bhaluka. One of them named Sanaullah Sajal died this morning. Among the remaining 12 people, five have been shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. At present seven people are under treatment in Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. I heard that another person died on the way to Dhaka.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bharadoba Highway Police Station Ataur Rahman said that 30 students and teachers of Bhaluka Jamia Islamia Darus Sunnah Qaumi Madrasa went to participate in the final prayer of Biswa Ijtema in Tongir. Everyone was returning to the madrasa in a truck from the prayer. At around 11:30 p.m., the truck driver immediately braked when he saw a covered van in front of the truck taking a U-turn as he approached the Dhalibari junction of Bhaluka Upazila. The truck lost control and overturned. All the occupants of the truck were injured and one student named Naeem Akand died.
Legal action is pending in this case.
