The appointment of 134 daily wage employees working in Barisal City Corporation has been cancelled. All of them were appointed on the last working day of former mayor Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah.
Barisal City Corporation’s newly elected Mayor Abul Khair Abdullah Khokon Serniabat dismissed them through a notice last Thursday afternoon after assuming office.
Former Barisal City Corporation Mayor Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah appointed 134 daily wage employees in the city corporation on his last working day. Apart from these 134 sacked, 51 salaried employees have been verbally instructed not to come to work.
According to sources in Nagar Bhaban, around last Thursday evening, the authority suspended 134 employees working in several branches including administration, market, cleaning, warehouse, electricity property, birth registration, engineering, city security, tax collection, property, trade and public relations and posted a notice on the board. Another 51 employees were banned from coming to work via phone.
According to a source of City Corporation, Barisal City Corporation is already low in income. On top of that, in the last five years, the corporation is saddled with debt as no government-private grants and allocations have been received.
The newly elected Mayor Abul Khair Abdullah Khokon Serniabat took charge as the Mayor of Barisal City Corporation on November 14. Sadiq Abdullah was denied nomination in the last city election. His uncle Abul Khair Abdullah Khokon Serniabat was nominated there.
