Purple Line will transport travelers between Bethesda, in Montgomery County, and New Carrollton, in Prince George’s County. The system will also provide direct connections to four branches of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority system, all three commuter rail lines in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area, and Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor line. This project will transform transportation in the Washington, DC region by adding convenient light rail service with an interconnected transit system.

The Purple Line Transit Partners consortium is led by Meridiam and Star America in the financial part, by Dragados (ACS) and OHLA USA in the construction and by ACI and CAF USA in the operation and maintenance of the network. In addition, it has managed to extend the duration of the works until winter 2027, compared to the previous forecast of autumn 2026, since the work is still 65% complete due to its “complexity.”

The line, called the Purple Line, will have 21 stations along a 26-kilometer route and will transport users between Bethesda, in Montgomery County, and New Carrollton, in Prince George’s County. When completed, the system will also provide direct connections to four branches of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority system, the three MARC commuter rail lines in the Baltimore-Washington area and the Northeast Corridor line in Amtrak.
