An allegation of embezzlement has been made against the office assistant cum-computer operator in Charmadhabpur Madinatul Uloom Alim Madrasa of Alokbali Union of Narsingdi without submitting the form fill fee to the board. In this, the examination of 57 candidates of Dakhil (SSC equivalent) examination to be held on February 15, 2024 has become uncertain. The madrasa authorities temporarily expelled the accused employee in this incident.

Meanwhile, the affected students protested by hanging locks in various rooms of the institution from last Tuesday to Thursday. The president and head teacher of the institution filed a written complaint with the upazila education officer and the upazila executive officer on Thursday regarding necessary action against the accused.

According to the written complaint, Kabir Hossain is the office assistant-cum-computer operator of Madinatul Uloom Alim Madrasa in Chermadhabpur. He embezzled the form fills of 22 students for the year 2022-23 and the registration fee of 35 students for the year 2023-24 without depositing them to the Madrasa Board. Their form filling could not be completed till Thursday. This has made it uncertain for them to participate in the examination to be held on February 15.

The complaint also mentions that the investigation of three members proved that the office assistant embezzled Tk 1 lakh 21 thousand from the fund of the madrasa by showing fake vouchers. Apart from this, he embezzled the last annual examination fee and salary of the students of class 6th to 10th. Apart from this, he is accused of being involved in 24 crimes including irregularities in various activities of the madrasa.

Dakhil examinee Rahim Sikder said, ‘I found out last Monday that our registration fee has not been submitted to the board. The last date for fee submission was November 30. Admit cards were issued to students of other institutes but ours was not issued. The exam is scheduled to be held on February 15. A year of our life is going to be lost due to the negligence of the organization. I have been protesting by hanging the lock in the institution since last Tuesday. Our movement will continue until we get the entry card.’

Madrasa Superintendent Benazir Ahmad said, ‘We contacted the Madrasa Education Board from last Tuesday to complete the registration of students with Tk 30,000 from our own pocket. But could not complete the registration till Thursday. Still undecided students will not be able to sit the exam. But our efforts continue.’

Benazir Ahmad also said, ‘I submitted the recommendation of the madrasa teachers to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer on Thursday by calling for an investigation and a meeting about the accused. He assured to take necessary action. We are hopeful that this problem will be solved.

Chermadhabpur Madinatul Uloom Alim Madrasati President and UP Chairman Delwar Hossain said, ‘Accused Kabir Hossain is a local and has influence with everyone. We have come to know that he is addicted to online gambling. Collected unreasonable fees from students and parents anonymously. He is involved in various irregularities. There are also several written complaints against him. I have stopped his salary several times, but he is not paying himself. We have informed the administration in writing, they will take necessary action.’

Accused Kabir Ahmed denied the allegations and said, ‘Our process is going on. We hope to distribute admit cards to students by February 1. Submitted to the fee board on Thursday afternoon. And all other allegations are false, fabricated and conspiratorial.’

Narsingdi Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Asma Sultana Nasreen said, ‘I have received a written complaint. Earlier, based on the oral complaint, in the preliminary investigation, I found the fact that Kabir Ahmed was involved in various irregularities. I will take necessary action regarding it. We are working to create an opportunity for those who are uncertain about sitting the exam.’
