Not turning 14 for two weeks

Bangladesh has done an almost unbelievable thing in Napier today. After winning the toss, Bangladesh bowled out New Zealand for 98 runs. Chasing that run, the visitors won by 9 wickets in 15 overs.

It is rare for Bangladesh to bowl the opponent below 100 runs. The surprise is even more because the name of the opponent is New Zealand. New Zealand always dominate at home. And New Zealand has bowled out Bangladesh by one hundred three times before at home or away.

And Bangladesh managed to bowl out the opponent below 100 runs only twice, both times in Chittagong.

In Chittagong in 2009, the host team bowled out Zimbabwe for 44 runs by one wicket. After two years, Bangladesh bowled out West Indies by 61 runs at the same ground. Bangladesh has not been able to stop any other country in double digits before this. In March this year, Ireland were bowled out in Sylhet, but the visitors were then stopped for 101 runs.

And last year showed the best success of Bangladesh on the opponent’s ground. In 2022, West Indies gave the hosts a shock on a spin-friendly wicket. Batting first in Providence, Windies were all out for just 108 runs.

In other words, this is the first time that Bangladesh have bowled out a team in their own home ground, and New Zealand has almost forgotten about it. New Zealand were bowled out for 73 runs against Sri Lanka in Auckland in 2007. Two weeks before his 14th birthday, Bangladesh again gave New Zealand a bitter taste.

With this, New Zealand was all out below one hundred only four times at home. The first time something like this happened, Bangladesh did not enter international cricket. Australia stopped the hosts for 74 runs in Wellington. After 8 years, New Zealand scored 94 runs against the same opponent in Christchurch.
