This season of BPL is going to start next Friday (January 19). Bangladesh T20 Franchise League is scheduled to start in two days, but all the teams have not announced their captain yet. However, Rangpur Riders, one of the most successful franchises in BPL, announced the name of their captain today. There was a surprise.

There was a buzz in cricket circles for quite some time that Shakib Al Hasan will be the captain of Rangpur. But today the Riders made Nurul Hasan Sohan their captain for this season, disappointing the Shakib-fans. The franchise also gave reasons for not giving Shakib the lead. He was not made the captain mainly because of Shakib’s request.

Rangpur Chief Executive Officer Ishtiaq Sadek said while facing the media at Bashundhara Sports Complex today, ‘Initially we thought of Shakib Al Hasan (as captain). But Shakib has told us that he does not want to take the pressure of captaincy. So we announced Nurul Hasan Sohan as the captain this time.

Shakib has been suffering from eye problems since the last ODI World Cup. Which had an effect on his performance. After returning to practice after the national election, Shakib’s eye problem also returned. The left-handed all-rounder also went to London before the BPL to solve this eye problem.

In this regard, Rangpur chief executive Ishtiaq Sadek said, no new information has been received from London so far, ‘the update that was in Bangladesh, fluid accumulated in his eyes…Angiogram was also done in London, the same report was received. Getting a second opinion today. Hopefully, there won’t be any major changes. He must now live a restful, carefree life. But he will return to the country by the 18th. Will reach Dhaka on 18th Inshallah. We will definitely get him in the first match.

Rangpur Riders will start their BPL mission with a match against Fortune Barisal on January 20.
