After 15 and a half hours of train derailment in Bankharia area of Gazipur, train movement on Dhaka-Mymensingh railway line has been normalized. Trains started running on this route at around 7:30 p.m. today, Wednesday.
Dhaka Divisional Railway Manager of Bangladesh Railway Sofiqur Rahman confirmed to Independent Television that train movement is normal.
Sofikur Rahman said that not only the train carriage-engine was damaged in the accident. Besides, 600 feet of railway line has been damaged. Out of this 100 sleepers have become completely unusable. 300 feet of rail line is being relaid. 100% of which has already been completed. After the repair of the damaged railway line, the relief train was run. Now after repairing the damaged line, it has been fully made suitable for train movement.
The derailed coaches will be kept at a safe distance beside the railway track and the derailed engine will be recovered, the official said. He said, with the combined efforts of all, rail communication was normalized 15 and a half hours after the accident.
Earlier, seven coaches of Dhaka-bound Mohanganj Express train derailed on the Dhaka-Mymensingh railway line at Bankharia village around 4 am today. One passenger died in the incident. More than fifty people were injured. The driver is among the injured. Imdadul Haque (57) and assistant driver. Green Mia (30). Both of them are undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
