Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said, ‘There is no opportunity to show kindness to Myanmar. Under no circumstances will IDPs be allowed to enter. Already so much burden. I can’t take it anymore.’
He said these things in response to questions from journalists at a press conference organized at the political office of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina in Dhanmondi on Monday afternoon.
Obaidul Quader said, “Due to the conflict on the border of Myanmar, the movement of citizens from two or three villages on the border of Bangladesh is a matter of concern. In their internal conflict, shells, mortar cells are coming here. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is communicating with Myanmar about this. This conflict in Myanmar is internal to them. They should resolve it themselves so that the panic caused by its influence does not spread to the neighboring countries. It can also be resolved through the mediation of the United Nations.
General Secretary of Awami League said, ‘What the Home Minister said on the issue of Myanmar is the statement of our government and party. We are concerned about some villages around the incident site. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will definitely talk about this. No matter how much provocation comes, we will not respond.’
US President Joe Biden has written a letter promising to work together with Bangladesh in various fields including economy. What will BNP say now? Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said, ‘BNP leaders have fled, some have covered their backs’. What is the source of your power now? People have already turned away from you. Neither the people nor the foreign friends have left BNP. The United States, which was trusted the most, has also pledged to work together with Sheikh Hasina’s government. What is the hope of BNP sitting in power now?’
In response to the journalists’ question about the negative activities of the Jahangirnagar University Chhatra League, the Awami League General Secretary highlighted the strong position of the party and said, ‘I cannot claim that all people in a party are good people. Some people do bad things. We do not condone bad deeds. If there is a crime like Asha under the law, it should be brought under the law. When Awami League was in power, no one could get away with a crime in the past.’
Awami League organizing secretary BM Mozammel Haque, SM Kamal Hossain and central and metropolitan Awami League leaders were also present during the exchange of views.
