He was elected privately by getting 1 lakh 98 thousand 155 votes. His closest rival is Bangladesh Islamic Front. Rubel Hossain got 3 thousand 206 votes with candle symbol.

In 2009, Awami League Member of Parliament of this constituency Zillur Rahman was elected as the President and his son Nazmul Hasan Papon was elected as Member of Parliament in the by-election. Since then, this seat has remained in the possession of Awami League.

The total number of voters in Kishoreganj-6 constituencies comprising of Bhairab and Kuliarchar upazilas is 3 lakh 99 thousand 2 hundred and 42 people.
