Russian opposition leader and staunch critic of President Vladimir Putin, Alexei Navalny, reportedly disappeared from prison earlier this month. Now he has been found. Only one of his mouths told the media that Navalny is alive. He is now in a concentration camp in Siberia.
According to the British media BBC, Navalny’s current position was discussed by his spokesperson Kira Yermis. He said on Monday that they have not been in contact with Navalny since December 5. It is not known where he was taken from the previous prison. This time he found out that Navalny is now in the northern part of Russia.
In a post on the messaging app Telegram, Kira Yarmis said Navalny is now in the IK-3 detention camp in the Kharp region of the Yamalo-Nenets region in northern Russia. He had an opportunity to speak with a lawyer on Monday.
It was reported earlier this month that Alexei Navalny, a staunch critic of Vladimir Putin, had disappeared from prison. His lawyers said that he tried to contact him for 6 days but failed. This information was given by the American media CNN in a report about them.
The lawyers still did not know where Navalny was. He was eventually held at the IK-6 detention camp, known for its brutality against prisoners. Navalny was sentenced to 19 years in prison last August on charges including incitement to extremism. He is in prison since 2021.
News of the 47-year-old Navalny’s disappearance comes as Vladimir Putin has announced he will run in the next presidential election. Elections are scheduled to be held in March 2024.
Before this, in 2020, an attempt was made to kill Navalny by using toxic chemicals in Serbia. When he fell ill, he was taken to Germany for treatment. Navalny was arrested at the airport when he returned home after a long treatment there.
Navalny has denied all the allegations against him. Navalny and his supporters have been claiming these allegations are false. In the meantime, the Russian administration has declared him and his party leaders as extremists.
