Murder of Journalist Masood: Remand of 7 accused granted

Court granted remand of seven accused in journalist Talukdar Masood murder case in Barguna. Following the application of the investigation officer of the case, after the hearing, Barguna Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Md. Haroon or Rashid granted the remand of the accused. Also, the bail application of the accused was also heard on the same day. After the hearing, the court denied bail and ordered to send him to jail.

Journalist Masood Talukder’s murder case investigation officer Barguna Sadar police station sub-inspector Md. Helal Uddin said that when the seven accused in the case were remanded in jail for five days, the court fixed the date of hearing today when they filed a remand application in the court last Monday.

After the hearing, accused No. 3 of the case, Barguna representative of Dainik Sangam Prakash newspaper Kasem Howlader and Barguna representative of Time TV, accused No. 5 of the case Saiful Islam Miraj were brought to the police station and granted a two-day remand for questioning.

The remaining 5 accused in the case, NTV’s own reporter (Barguna) Sohail Hafiz, NTV’s camera person Ariful Islam Murad, Bangla News’ Barguna correspondent Zahidul Islam Mehdi, daily Ajker Darpan’s Oli Ullah Imran and their associate Sohag Hawladar have been remanded for 2 days by the court for questioning at the jail.

Plaintiff’s lawyer. Nesar Uddin said that the court fixed the date for the hearing on Wednesday (today) after applying for bail on behalf of the accused on Monday. After the hearing, the bail application was rejected. In addition, accused No. 12 of the case. When Shahidul Islam surrendered to the court today and asked for bail, the court rejected the application and ordered to send him to jail.

Defendant’s lawyer. Abdur Rahman said, ‘The court has denied bail. Later we will apply for bail in the district and session judge court. If the bail is denied in the lower court, the bail application will be made in the high court.

Journalist Talukdar Masood died on March 2 after 11 days of beating and torture after being detained at the Barguna Press Club on February 19. In this incident, on March 4, Sajeda, the victim’s wife, filed a murder case against 13 people at Barguna Sadar police station. Talukdar Masood was the Barguna correspondent of ‘Dainik Bhorer Dak’ newspaper and several times UP member of Naltona Union of Sadar Upazila.

Four accused are still absconding in this case. They are Jamuna Television Barguna representative Ferdous Khan Imon, DBC News Barguna district representative Ah Malek Mithu, ASM Sifat, Chagir Hossain Titu.
