National singer Mumtaz Begum, the defeated candidate in the recently concluded national elections, gave an ultimatum to arrest those involved in post-election violence in Manikganj-2 constituency within 24 hours. He announced that if the attackers are not arrested during this time, he will deal with the attackers himself.

He gave this ultimatum in an exchange meeting with leaders and activists at the Harirampur Upazila Awami League office in Manikganj on Friday. He also informed about the ultimatum while talking to the journalists later.

Mumtaz visited various areas of Singair and Harirampur upazilas throughout the day today and inquired about the injured and affected activists and activists in the post-election attacks.

Meanwhile, Mumtaz complained that after winning the election, supporters of independent candidate Zahid Ahmed Tulu were beating up his workers and supporters and attacking business establishments. At least half a hundred activists were injured in the attack. Although there are several cases in these incidents, the administration is not taking any action.

Mumtaz complained and said, ‘The winning candidate is trying to destroy Awami League along with BNP-Jamaat.’

Mumtaz said, ‘The back is against the wall. Within 24 hours, the attackers including Nabinur Rahman, son of Harirampur Upazila Parishad Chairman Dewan Saidur Rahman and former president of Upazila Chhatra League, Rajiv, must be arrested. If not, the attackers’ houses will be surrounded with the leaders and workers, including fighting on the streets themselves.’

Earlier, Mumtaz had announced arresting the attackers from their homes in several road meetings. In the evening, he held a meeting with Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shah Noor A Alam at Harirampur Police Station. At this time, he demanded the arrest of those involved in the attack.

Defeated independent candidate in Manikganj-2 constituency and former chairman of Singair Upazila Parishad Mushfiqur Rahman Khan Hannan, General Secretary of Singair Upazila Awami League Shahidur Rahman, Information and Research Secretary of District Awami League Md. Yusuf Ali, Youth and Sports Affairs Secretary Abid Hasan Biplab, Mayor of Singair Municipality Abu Naeem Bashar along with Singair and Harirampur Upazila Awami League and leaders-activists of the organs and allied organizations were present on this occasion.

Dewan Zahid Ahmed Tulu, the winning candidate of Manikganj-2 constituency, said, ‘None of my workers beat or threatened any of Mumtaz Begum’s supporters, on the contrary, her gangsters are threatening and beating my workers-supporters in various ways. Mumtaz is trying to fool people by spreading such false, fabricated rumours.’

Harirampur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shah Noor A Alam said that two cases have been registered in connection with the attack. But all the accused are on bail by the learned court. There is no negligence on the part of the police in arresting the accused.
