A fire broke out in Tejgaon Mollabari slum in the capital last Friday around 2.30 am. Fish and vegetable vendors of Karwan Bazar lived in this tin slum next to Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC). On receiving the information, 13 units of the fire service brought the fire under control in about an hour and a half.
Mother and son died in this midnight fire while they were sleeping. Several others were burnt in this incident.
About one and a half thousand people of Mollabari slum have become destitute in the fire. About 200 families became homeless. Although many have arranged to spend the night under the open sky, the Kulkinara are not getting enough food due to severe cold.
