India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi is inaugurating the much-discussed Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. He went to Ayodhya to inaugurate this temple on Monday morning.
Indian media NDTV reported that Modi took part in various religious rituals on the occasion of the inauguration of Ram Mandir. After that, the blindfold of the idol of Lord Rama kept in the main hall of the temple was untied. And through this the ‘Pranapratishtha’ of Rama is completed. Narendra Modi led the entire process.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh Governor Abandiben Patel, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RAS) chief Mohan Bhagwat and others were with Narendra Modi during the inauguration of the Ram Mandi.
Modi broke his 11-day fast after ‘Pranapratishta’. At this time Govindadev Giri Maharaj of Sriram Janmabhoomi Tirtha Kshetra Trust broke his fast by feeding him ‘charanamrit’ from a glass and a spoon. Narendra Modi was observing an 11-day ‘Upvas Vrat’ to purify his body and soul before inaugurating the Ram Mandir. It is also known as ‘hard vow’.
According to the NDTV report, Modi’s public meeting was organized in the main premises of the Ram Mandir. He concluded the main phase of the temple inauguration and addressed the public meeting. Modi said in his speech, ‘January 22 is not just a date, but the beginning of a new era. Ram will not stay in the tent, but this time in the temple.’
The place where the Ram Mandir was built was once the ‘Babri Masjid’ popular with Muslims. Hindu-Muslim riots broke out in 1992 when the 16th-century mosque was demolished by fanatical Hindu mobs. At least 2 thousand people were killed in that riot.
The news agency Reuters said, India’s ruling party BJP has brought forward the 35-year-old debate and made it a political issue and the party has come to power through it.
However, most of the opposition parties, including the Indian Congress, did not attend today’s grand opening ceremony. Even many Hindu clerics did not attend the event. According to them, Modi has built this temple for political purposes and not for religious purposes.
According to BBC, the Ram Mandir is being built on 7.2 acres of a 70 acre complex. It will have three floors. The construction cost is estimated at 21 crore 70 lakh rupees. Today Modi inaugurated only the ground floor. The construction of the rest of the temple is expected to be completed within this year.
