Russian forces launched a missile attack on the eastern city of Pokrovsk and its surrounding areas. At least 11 people including five children were killed. At least eight people were injured. Qatar-based media Al Jazeera reported this information.
The regional governor of Donetsk, Vadim Filashkin, wrote on the Telegram app that the attack took place yesterday, Saturday. A series of attacks have been carried out through S-300 missiles. Ordinary people of Pokorovsk and Mirnograd were injured.
Filashkin also published some photos. Those pictures showed rescuers working through the rubble after the bombing.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims in his regular video address last night. He alleged that Russia is again deliberately attacking civilian installations and people.
Volodymyr Zelensky also warned that Russia must suffer the consequences of these terrorist attacks.
Earlier last August there was a deadly bomb attack in the city of Pokrovsk. Eight people were killed and 82 injured.
Denis Brown, the UN humanitarian coordinator in Ukraine, said the brutal attacks were taking the lives of children. He was shocked.
Reuters reported that they contacted the Russian Defense Ministry for a response to the attack. But the Russian Defense Ministry did not immediately respond.
However, in a statement issued yesterday morning, the Russian military said it had attacked a Ukrainian military outpost near Pokrovsk. The statement used the Soviet-era name of Pokrovsk. During the Soviet era, the city was called Krasnoyarsk.
