After Gazipur, miscreants tried to sabotage the railway line by opening 72 fishplate clips at Domar in Nilphamari. When the locals heard the clip opening, they ran away. The border express train from Chilahati to Khulna was saved from the accident by the efforts of railway department and locals.
The incident took place in Bagdokra Pradhanpara area of Boragari Union of Domar Upazila around 10 pm yesterday. In this incident, train movement was stopped for about one and a half hours on the Domar-Chilahati railway.
Local residents said that on Wednesday night, the sound of opening the railway line could be heard in that area. Going there, it can be seen that some people are opening the fishplate pin of the railway line. Later, the miscreants fled after being chased by the locals.
Abu Raihan of Pradhanpara village said that the border express train was coming from Chilahati to Khulna after the incident. At that time 300 to 400 people were present at the spot. As they all gave different signals, the train stopped. The train was saved from a major accident.
Boragari Union Parishad Chairman Aminul Islam Rimon said that the miscreants ran away after being chased by the locals. Later, 72 pieces of fishplate clips were recovered from a sack left by them. After that, when the railway people came and repaired the line, the train left for Khulna after about an hour and a half.
Sultan Mridha, Senior Assistant Engineer of Syedpur Railway Factory, said that he reached the spot with the workers during the night after receiving information that the fishplate clip of the railway line had been removed for sabotage. Later, after the repair of the railway line, the train movement was normalized. A big accident would have happened if the local people did not realize this. In this regard, legal action will be taken after discussing with the higher authorities on Thursday.
Doma Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Nazmul Alam said, ‘I went to the spot and found that 72 fishplates of the railway line had been opened. A large part of the railway line passes over our Domar, we will inform the government so that the security of the place through which the railway line passes is strengthened. Apart from this, we are talking to the railway authorities and we will provide them with the kind of cooperation they want from us.’
Earlier on Wednesday around 4 am, seven coaches of Dhaka-bound Mohanganj Express train derailed on the Dhaka-Mymensingh railway line in Bankharia village of Gazipur. One passenger died in the incident. More than fifty people were injured. The driver is among the injured. Imdadul Haque (57) and assistant driver. Green Mia (30). Both of them are undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
