Mirza Fakhrul-Amir Khusro’s bail

The court has granted bail to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of the party’s standing committee, in a case of sabotage of Paltan police station in the capital. Amir Khosru got bail in another case of Paltan police station.

On Wednesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tahmina Haque ordered their bail after the court hearing on Tk 10,000 surety until the police report is submitted.

Lawyers Mohsin Mia and Syed Zainul Abedin Mejbah appeared in court on behalf of the accused. In the bail hearing, the lawyers said that there is no specific charge against them. They prayed for bail considering the elderly and sick. The state opposed bail. After the hearing of both parties, the court gave this order.

Earlier on January 10, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir got bail in 9 cases of Paltan police station in the capital.

BNP held a mass meeting in the capital on October 28. BNP leaders and activists clashed with the police before the start of their program. A policeman was killed in this incident. Angry BNP leaders-activists attacked the Chief Justice’s residence on Hare Road. Judges Complex and Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital in Kakrail were vandalized.

Several media workers were also seriously injured in the attack by BNP leaders-activists while collecting the news of the mass meeting. Several media vehicles were vandalized.

After this incident, the law enforcement forces arrested BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on the charge of sabotage on October 29. He has been in jail ever since.

And on November 2, Amir Khosru was arrested from his home in Gulshan at around 1:15 a.m. The court granted his 6-day remand the next day. He was sent to prison after remand on November 9. Since then he has also been in jail.
