A gas cylinder explosion occurred while inflating balloons on the occasion of Victory Day celebrations at Manikganj District Commissioner’s office. In this incident. A balloon seller named Anwar Babari (50) died. Another balloon seller named Kabir Hossain (23) was seriously injured.
This incident took place at the public hearing on the ground floor of the Deputy Commissioner’s office at around 4:30 am on Saturday.
The deceased Md. Anwar Bepari is the son of Kawsar Bepari of Arokandi village of Kotyali police station of Faridpur district. And the injured Kabir Hossain is the son of Atar Ali of Paschim Shanbandha village of Manikganj Sadar Upazila.
Deputy Inspector of Police (ASI) in charge of Manikganj District Commissioner’s office. Mostafizur Rahman said, around 4:30 in the morning, those two balloon sellers were inflating balloons to be blown up on Victory Day on the ground floor of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. At that time, the gas cylinder exploded with a loud noise and two were seriously injured. One leg of Anwar Bepari was severed from his body in the blast.
Later, Manikganj Sadar Police Station and Fire Rescue officials rescued the injured and first took them to District Sadar Hospital. As the injured Anwar Bepari’s condition was critical, he died on the way to the Paralympic Hospital in Dhaka.
Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Habil Hossain said that the body of the deceased Anwar Bepari has been kept in the mortuary at Sadar Hospital. Legal action in this regard is under process.
