The Sri Lankan cricket team suffered an extreme collapse in the World Cup. Arjuna Ranatunga’s men also missed out on the Champions Trophy by finishing ninth in the ten-team World Cup. The Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has announced a 17-member squad ahead of the ODI series to be held at home. Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka, who was dropped midway through the World Cup, has returned to the ODI squad. However, this all-rounder has been removed from the captaincy. In addition, due to the World Cup, there have been major changes in the team, players who have not played in the World Cup have been left out.

SLC also did not include veteran cricketer Angela Mathews, who was timed out for the first time in the history of the World Cup. Apart from this all-rounder, eight other players who played in the last World Cup have been left out. Featuring Kushal Perera, Dimuth Karunaratne, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dushan Hemant, Chamika Karunaratne, Lahiru Kumara, Kasun Rajitha and Mathisha Pathirana.

Meanwhile, all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga returned to the team after recovering from injury. His return to the ODI squad is dependent on his fitness. However, this leg spinner has returned to the T20 team as the captain. The Lankans got a new captain for the three-match ODI series. The hosts will enter the first ODI on January 6 under wicketkeeper batsman Kushal Mendis. The new face in the 17-member team was Lianag. Who will be waiting for ODI debut.

Three ODIs of the series will be held on January 6, 8 and 11. Then there will be a three-match T20 series on January 14, 16 and 18. All six matches of both formats will be played at Premedasa Stadium in Colombo.
