Mahakhali blast: One more killed, death toll rises to five

Another person named Kamal Abedin (49) died while under treatment in the incident of gas pipe explosion at Mohakhali Royal Filling Station in the capital. With this, the number of deaths has increased to 5. Deceased Kamal Abedin son of deceased Zainal Abedin of No. 4/13 Mohammadpur Salimullah Road. He is the father of two sons.

He died on Saturday evening while undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Center of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute Resident Doctor Tariqul Islam said, ‘Eight people were admitted to the Burn Institute with burns from Mahakhali. Kamal Abedin died in the intensive care unit of Sheikh Hasina Burna with 15 percent burns this evening. Before this, Amir Hussain died on Thursday morning and Masum at noon, Salahuddin died on Thursday around 5:30 pm.

He also said that five people died in this incident. One is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit. One is in HDU. The remaining one was discharged with first aid.

Saad, sister-in-law of deceased Kamal Abedin said, ‘My uncle was working as a staff of Royal Sealing Station. He was also burnt in the explosion during the incident. Later with the help of others we brought him to Sheikh Hasina burn unit. My uncle died while undergoing treatment in the ICU this evening.’

It is to be noted that the fire occurred due to the explosion of the Royal Filling Station on the opposite side of the Mohakhali Bus Terminal at around 8:30 pm last Wednesday. Eight people were burnt.
