The court sentenced a ward councilor to life imprisonment in the Rajbari Panchaya weapons case. At the same time, he has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment in another section.

On Monday afternoon, Rajbari Special Tribunal Judge and District and Sessions Judge Zakia Parveen gave the verdict in the absence of the accused, according to Wazir Ali, the lawyer for the state.

State counsel Uzir Ali said that on April 21, 2014, the police of Pangsha police station arrested Tajul Islam with a one-shooter gun and three rounds of bullets from a mahogany garden behind Madina Clinic in Pangsha Upazila. In this incident, the next day on April 22, SI Zakir of Pangsha Police Station filed a weapons case in Pangsha Police Station as a plaintiff. The judge announced the verdict after reviewing the lengthy evidence and documents of the case.

Lawyer Wazir Ali also said that the accused was not present in the court when the verdict was announced. However, he is satisfied with this verdict.

Pangsha Municipality Mayor Wazed Ali said that Tajul Islam was dismissed from the post of councilor on May 2, 2023 by the Ministry of Local Government on charges of terrorist activities. Later Councilor Tajul Islam appealed to the High Court and got his post back.

Mayor Wazed Ali also said that he is not aware of Tajul’s life sentence in the court. The matter will be informed to the local government authority after receiving the judgment papers.
