Lakhs fined for illegal storage of rice in Mahadevpur

Mahadevpur upazila executive officer and executive magistrate Md. fined an auto rice mill one lakh taka through a mobile court for illegally storing rice in Saraswatipur of Mahadevpur upazila of Naogaon. Kamrul Hasan Sohag. ACI Auto Ricemill was fined under Section 19(1) of the Agricultural Marketing Act 2008 at around 6pm on Tuesday and was collected immediately.

This penalty was imposed due to the stock of Atap rice exceeding the prescribed capacity of the mill. The executive magistrate also ordered the sale of illegally stored rice within three working days. Besides, the court also ordered to remove the additional price written on the bag.

Naogaon Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md. Golam Mawla, National Security Intelligence Agency NSI Deputy Director Manik Chandra Dey, District Food Controller Tanvir Rahman, District Market Officer Md. Aminul Islam, Assistant Director of Consumer Rights. Rubel Ahmed, upazila food controller. Mahajer Hasan and the officer in charge of Mahadevpur sadar food warehouse. Atiqul Islam was present. A team of Mahadevpur Thana police cooperated in this operation.

District Commissioner Md. Golam Moola said, ‘The price of rice has suddenly increased for several days. It has been alleged that several mill owners have raised the price of rice by illegal stocking. In view of this complaint, the warehouses of the mill are being raided. Such operations will continue.’
