Liverpool faced Arsenal with a chance to top the Premier League points table with a win – the chance to go to the big day’s festivities. The All Reds drew 1-1 with Arsenal at Andfield on Saturday. Jurgen Klopp blames the referee for denying the victory in the match. The Liverpool coach complained that they were not given a fair penalty.

19 minutes of the match is going on. Referee Chris Cavanagh allowed play to continue when Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard caught the ball in the box. Liverpool players appealed for a penalty, but the English referee did not respond to it. But VAR also did not say anything.

Klopp, who was in the dugout, was seen expressing frustration at the time of the incident. After the match, the Liverpool coach was openly angry with the referee, ‘I don’t know if the referee saw it (handball) or not. If he saw it, I don’t understand, how could it not be a penalty? I’m sure someone will come and explain to me why it’s not handball. I don’t know how (it’s not a penalty).’

When Odegaard got the ball in his hand, it avoided the referee’s eyes but why VAR didn’t see it, Klopp was more angry about it, ‘I’m not saying that the referee could see it. Because I don’t know where he was then. That is a different matter. But someone was sitting in the office (for VAR check in front of the monitor). But how can he, after seeing it, decide that the incident should not be revisited by the referee.’

The reason for Klopp’s anger is clear. A win would see the All Reds finish the year top of the Premier League. But with such a decision of the referee, Liverpool has to be satisfied with only one point.

Even Arsenal defender William Saliba admitted after the match that it was a penalty.

However, the match was not easy for Liverpool. Gabriel Magalies stunned the hosts by scoring in four minutes. Then Odegaard’s handball shot in 19 minutes. Ten minutes later, Mohamed Salah leveled Liverpool with a left-footed shot from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s eye-catching pass.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal topped the list with 40 points from 18 matches with one point in the match. Liverpool is number two from 1 point behind in the equal match.
