Kidnapping followed by ransom, then businessman murder

Miscreants killed a businessman named Mucha Ali (40) for ransom after abduction in Comilla’s Devidwar. The incident took place on Wednesday night in the northern side of Bagur bus station of the upazila.

Mucha Ali is a resident of Uttar Nazir Para village of Teknaf Upazila in Cox’s Bazar. He used to trade shoes and clothes in the Rohingya camp. His in-laws are in Tulagaon village of Sultanpur Union of Debidwar Upazila of Comilla.

Citing the family of the deceased, the police said that Mucha left the in-laws’ house after receiving a phone call around 8:30 pm on Wednesday. Around 9 pm, his wife Razia received a phone call from Mucha’s number that her husband had been abducted. Payment will be made within 10 minutes. Later, 30 thousand rupees were sent to the Bikash number given by the kidnappers. At around 10:30 pm, the family members got the news that Musa had been killed.

Several local people, who did not want to be named, said that some youths stabbed Musa and ran away. He was rescued and taken to a local hospital in a critical condition where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Razia, the wife of the deceased, said that her husband used to bring clothes, shoes and cosmetics from Dhaka and Comilla and sell them in a shop next to Jamtala Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar. On Wednesday night Sohail got a phone call from an acquaintance and left home.

Razia also said that those who arrested her husband first demanded Tk 10 lakh. Later, after sending 30 thousand rupees to Bikash through a relative, her husband was killed.

Debidwar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nayan Mia said that the body of the deceased was found with stab marks at various places. Initially, three drug cases were found against him. Mucha was present in a drug case in the Comilla court last Sunday as well.

The OC also said that it is believed that those involved in the incident were known to Mocha. There may be drug or financial dispute behind the murder. However, the details will be known after the investigation.
