The court has fixed February 15 as the date for hearing the charge sheet against 15 accused including BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Global Agrotrade Private Limited (GATCO) corruption case.

The court gave this order after a partial hearing on behalf of Khaleda Zia in the court of Judge Ali Hossain of the temporary Dhaka Special Judge Court-3 established in Keraniganj Central Jail on Wednesday.

This was confirmed by Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Syed Zainul Abedin Mejbah.

Earlier, lawyer Syed Zainul Abedin Mejbah said that senior lawyer Masood Ahmed Talukder, who presented arguments in favor of exonerating Khaleda Zia from the charges in the case, could not attend today’s hearing as he had gone abroad. Therefore, the hearing should be adjourned. This lawyer wants time for this. Later, the court rejected the application and asked to hear the charges.

On September 2, 2007, ACC Deputy Director Golam Shahriar Chowdhury filed the GATCO corruption case against 13 people including Khaleda Zia at Tejgaon police station in the capital.

After the investigation on May 13, 2008, ACC Deputy Director Zahirul Huda filed a charge sheet against 24 people including Khaleda Zia. According to court sources, out of 15 accused in this case, 9 have died.
