Barrister M Shahjahan Omar, who is a candidate for Jhalkathi-1 (Rajapur-Kathalia) constituency, said, “Sheikh Hasina is a very skilled person in running the state. Khaleda Jia was also skilled, but there was laziness in her. He used to wake up at 12 o’clock, come to office late. But Sheikh Hasina gets up at 6 in the morning and works till 12 at night.’
Shahjahan Omar said these things in an election meeting with local Awami League leaders at Rajapur Fazil Madrasa ground in Jhalkathi on Thursday afternoon.
At that time, Omar said, ‘I made the country independent by fighting, killing people, and by giving advice, he does this, he does that, he does that, this vulture has no place in this country. The advice of foreigners will not work on the soil of Bengal.’
Shahjahan Omar also said, ‘Slowly we will become better and better under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina. In the future we will build Sheikh Hasina’s Smart Bangladesh. As long as I live, I will be among you, I will serve you.’
Meanwhile, Awami League’s senior leader Amir Hossain Amu settled the local Awami League’s conflict with barrister M Shahjahan Omar, the nominated boat symbol candidate of Awami League in Jhalkathi-1 (Rajapur-Kathalia) constituency.
On the initiative of this leader, on Wednesday night at his (Amir Hossain Amu) residence in Barisal, the party leaders of two upazilas sat with the workers and introduced Shahjahan Omar and after exchanging skills, all were instructed to work for the united boat.
It is to be noted that on November 30, BNP’s infamous Jhalkathi-1 (Rajapur-Kathalia) seat was dramatically nominated by Awami League, barrister Shahjahan Omar, the resigned leader of BNP. After getting the boat ticket, there was a split in the party’s local Awami League.
However, the wind of victory has started blowing in the sails of barrister M Shahjahan Omar due to personal popularity and elimination of enmity with the leaders and workers of Rajapur-Kathalia Upazila Awami League and its affiliates.
Even though there are 8 candidates in Jhalkathi-1 seat, the voters are keeping the senior political leader Barrister M Shahjahan Omar ahead in terms of popularity.
It should be noted that since 1991, Shahjahan Omar has participated in four national elections on behalf of Paddy. He was the Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and State Minister of Lands in the BNP government.
