Ushatan Talukder, vice-president of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Jana Sanhati Samiti (JSS), withdrew from the election in Rangamati. He submitted the application to withdraw the candidature to the District Returning Officer on Friday afternoon.

According to the decision of the organization, Ushatan Talukder informed about the withdrawal of nomination. He said, ‘In view of the overall situation of the country and the actual situation here, I refrained from participating in the elections. I am always with you (people) even if I am not elected. You can get me any time any way.’

5 people submitted their nominations for this seat in Rangamati. As Ushatan stepped down, Awami League’s Dipankar Talukder, Jatiya Party’s Harun Rashid Matbar, Cultural Unity’s Amar Kumar Dey and Trinamool BNP’s Mizanur Rahman are now in the contest.

Ushatan defeated Dipankar Talukder by 18 thousand votes in 2014 elections. Later, Dipankar Talukder defeated Ushatan by a margin of 35 thousand votes in the 2018 elections.
