Houthi rebels have been attacking commercial ships in the Red Sea one after another. They have been saying that this attack is a protest against Israel’s barbaric attacks. Several countries, including the United States, have agreed to joint patrols in the southern part of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden to counter this attack.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said these things at a joint press conference on Monday after a meeting with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant. He called for an end to the killing of civilians in Gaza, stating that America will support Israel in its defense. He also reiterated the US government’s commitment to a two-state solution.

At that time, Austin announced the formation of an international coalition in response to the Houthi rebels’ attack on commercial ships in the Red Sea. In response, Houthi said, this Yemeni rebel group will face any such force.

According to the news agency Reuters, Lloyd Austin said that these countries agreed before visiting Bahrain. These include the UK, Bahrain, Canada, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Seychelles and Spain. America will lead this patrol.

However, it has not been reported whether these countries will do what the US forces have done in this area recently. US forces have been shooting down the group’s missiles and drones to counter the Houthis. Apart from this, the country started providing quick assistance and rescue operations to the ships that were attacked by Houthis.

In a statement on Tuesday, Lloyd Austin said, ‘This is an international threat, which must be stopped by all. That’s why I announced this joint patrol.’

Since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas on October 7, the Iran-backed Houthi armed group of Yemen has been regularly attacking cargo ships bound for Israel. The group said it was attacking the cargo ships in solidarity with Palestinian fighters and to pressure Israel commercially.

Two ships were also attacked last Monday. Due to this, some companies stopped shipping on this route.

On October 7, Israel launched a counter-attack on Gaza after Gaza’s armed independence organization Hamas attacked Israel. More than 1,000 Israelis have been killed in Hamas attacks so far. And in the Israeli attack, about twenty thousand people in Gaza lost their lives.
