The High Court has suspended the position of Member of Parliament of Jhenaidah-1 Constituency Mohammad Abdul Hai for two months in view of the writ petition filed alleging irregularities in the publication of election results. Simultaneously the published gazette of this seat will also be suspended.

Justice AKM Asaduzzaman single high court bench gave the order on Thursday.

As a result of this order, Abdul Hai will not be able to perform any duties as a Member of Parliament. Nazrul Islam, an independent candidate of the same seat, complained that he was declared the winner in the results published on the afternoon of January 7, but later that result was changed and Mohammad Abdul Hai was declared the winner on January 8.

Later, Nazrul Islam filed a writ petition in the High Court challenging its validity. Advocate Mojibur Rahman filed the court writ on behalf of Nazrul Islam.
