The poster of Jatiya Party (JPA) candidate for Kishoreganj-3 (Karimganj-Tarail) constituency in the 12th National Assembly elections reads ‘Jatiya Party Nominee and Awami League Supported’. Awami League supporting writing on the poster has caused a commotion in the area with anger among the local Awami League leaders and activists. Jatiya Party’s candidate for this seat is party general secretary Mujibul Haque Chunnu.
In this election, Nasirul Islam Khan, the candidate nominated by Awami League for Kishoreganj-3 constituency, withdrew his nomination on December 17 due to a verbal agreement between Awami League and Jatiya Party. He resigned from the post of Karimganj Upazila Parishad Chairman and submitted his nomination papers.
Mujibul Haque Chunnu’s posters were hung in the area since the official campaign started on December 18 through the allotment of symbols. After seeing the poster written ‘Awami League supported’, intense anger has been created among the local Awami League leaders and activists.
Nasimul Haque, an independent candidate of Kishoreganj-3 constituencies, who was deprived of the nomination of Awami League, said, ‘There is no unity between Awami League and National Party this time. Therefore, if the Secretary General of the Jatiya Party becomes a plow marker candidate and says that Awami League is supported, it is not right.
