Israel has demanded that 200 fighters of Hamas and the Islamic Jihad group be arrested and taken back to their country for questioning. In a statement, the Israeli army said the captured fighters were hiding among the civilian population and had surrendered voluntarily. British media BBC reported this information.

Israel also said it had arrested 700 Palestinian fighters since launching an operation in Gaza aimed at eliminating Hamas. But the BBC said it could not immediately verify the veracity of Israel’s claim.

Hamas, the Palestinian independence armed group, said Israel launched an attack on Gaza two and a half months ago. Since then, Israeli bombings have killed countless civilians. Most of the dead were women and children. The statistics published by the United Nations on the casualties in Gaza also mention that most of the casualties are women and children.

On October 7, Hamas fighters ambushed Israel’s northern Erez border. Israel claimed that about 1,200 Israelis were killed in the operation. Besides, about 240 people were taken hostage. Then the Israeli air force started operations in Gaza from that day. Later, the ground forces also joined the operation from October 28.

More than 20,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip, which has been reduced to rubble by Israeli forces for more than two months. 70 percent of these victims are women, children, minors, adolescents and the elderly. Along with that, another 52 thousand 586 people were injured and 6 thousand 700 people are still missing. In addition, thousands of families have lost their housing and have taken shelter in various schools, government institutions and hospital premises.

On Saturday, US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke on the phone about the Gaza issue. During the phone call, Joe Biden emphasized the need to protect civilians, including humanitarian aid workers, the White House said in a statement.

On the other hand, the Israeli Prime Minister’s office said that the Israeli army will continue fighting until all goals are achieved, including the elimination of Hamas. In the meantime, they have almost completely taken control of the northern part of the Gaza Strip and intensified operations in the south.
