Jharkhand Chief Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) president Hemant Soren has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the central intelligence agency investigating the country’s financial scams. He was arrested on Wednesday night. This information was reported in the report of Indian media NDTV.

It is said that Champai Saren, another senior leader of the ruling JMM, will be the next Chief Minister of Jharkhand due to the arrest of Hemant. He is currently serving as the Communications Minister of Jharkhand.

Saren had been summoned by the ED last month for questioning on charges of money laundering in a land scam case. Two cases of illegal mining and land scam in the state capital Ranchi are under investigation by the ED. ED officials conducted a 13-hour search operation at Hemantar’s house in Delhi from last Monday morning. ED has seized some important documents, cash worth Rs 36 lakh and a BMW car in the raid.

ED has summoned Hemant Soren 9 times in the financial corruption case. Each time he avoided. ED summoned him again on Saturday. Hemant was asked to appear at the ED office in Delhi between January 27 and 31. A raid was conducted at his house without getting any response.

Section 144 was imposed outside Hemant’s official residence, office and ED office in Ranchi to deal with the situation. Hemant’s party MLAs were there till Monday late night. His party and supporters claim that Hemant is being deliberately targeted ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
