In the 12th National Assembly election, there were allegations of vandalism against the workers-supporters of the boat candidate in Naogaon Manda by attacking and vandalizing the election office and business establishments of independent candidate SM Brahani Sultan Mamud Gamar (truck symbol).
The incident of attack and vandalism took place in Mainam market of the upazila around noon on Saturday. After receiving the information, the police reached the spot and controlled the situation. At this time, three workers-supporters of the independent candidate were injured.
Later, they were rescued and admitted to the 250-bed Naogaon General Hospital. The injured are Alam Sardar (45), Samsul Islam alias Sonamul (50) and ABM Hasan Ripu (55).
Independent candidate SM Brahani Sultan Mabud Gama complained, “Every day in some area my workers-supporters are being beaten by the workers-supporters of the boat candidate. Although several complaints have been given in this regard, no action has been taken by the police and the local administration.
Gama also said, ‘On Saturday, my election office and business were attacked and vandalized in a planned manner. More than half a hundred leaders and activists of the boat candidate under the leadership of local youth leader Al-Amin Rana, Ashiq Sarfraz, Zillur Rahman took part in this attack.
Manda Upazila Awami League president Nazim Uddin Mon said about the complaints, ‘Boat supporters are campaigning in a peaceful manner following the code of conduct. I am not aware of the attack and vandalism of independent candidate Gamma’s election office and business establishment. I can’t say anything about it.’
When asked about the attack and vandalism, Manda Police Station Officer-in-Charge OC Mozammel Haque Kazi said that the site of attack and vandalism was visited at the election office and business establishment of independent candidate Gamma. No complaints have been received so far.
He also said that if complaints are received, action will be taken after investigation. At present the situation in that area is normal. Police have been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident.
