Independent candidate’s campaign convoy attacked by boat supporters in Bagmara, 2 injured

The campaign vehicle of Engineer Enamul Haque MP, an independent candidate of Rajshahi-4 Bagmara Constituency, was attacked in the 12th National Assembly Elections. The attack took place at Kalitala Madrasa junction of Bagmara Dwippur Union at around 8 pm on Sunday. Two people named Mujibur Rahman and Sweet were injured.

Additional police have been deployed in the area after the incident. Protesting the attack, Enamul Haque held a protest rally on the spot. In the rally, Enamul Haque claimed that the boat candidate Abul Kalam Azad’s people attacked his convoy.

Independent candidate Engineer Enamul Haque MP complained that he did mass communication in various places of Dwippur Union on Sunday. When the campaign vehicle reached Kalitala Madrasa intersection of Dwippur Union at around 8 pm, the supporters of the camel boat started throwing stones at the vehicle. Supporters Mojibur Rahman and Sweet were injured by the brick thrown by them. They got head injuries. However, even though Enamul Haque was in that car, he was not injured as the activists surrounded him.

Meanwhile, engineer Enamul Haque held a protest rally there after the attack. At the same time, supporters of Bagmara-wide boat candidate Abul Kalam Azad are demanding justice for the rampage. He also said that he will file a case in the police station.

Rajshahi’s Bagmara police officer-in-charge Aurobindo Sarkar said that after receiving information about the attack on the independent candidate, Additional Superintendent of Police Abu Saleh Md. Senior officials including Ashraful Alam went to the spot. Additional police have been deployed there to keep the situation under control. The situation is under the control of the police. However, legal action will be taken if there is a complaint in this regard.
