Rashed Khan Menon, president of the Workers’ Party, commented that independent candidates are creating conflict. He made this comment with reporters at the beginning of an extended meeting of Workers Party in Barisal district in Kaunia area of Barisal city on Sunday morning.

Menon said that there is a problem with independent candidates in the 12th National Assembly elections. Where the coalition is being given a boat from Awami League, another person from Awami League is holding an independent election. This creates conflict. But the people will decide its candidate.

The president of the Workers’ Party said, I have been holding elections since 1973. At the end of my life, I returned to my native place. I was first nominated from Barisal-3 from the coalition. Later now Barisal-2 is being given. Perhaps this change was made as part of a compromise with the Jatiya Party. Because the running MP there belongs to the Jatiya Party.

Menon said, ‘Awami League has been talked to. Together we will all work together in the election.’

Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal announced the schedule of the 12th National Assembly elections on November 15. Last date for withdrawal of candidature as per schedule is today. And symbol allotment on 18th December. The campaign will start from December 18 and will continue until January 5 at 8 am. Voting will be held on January 7, 2024.
