Bangladesh Bank has given the opportunity to import the remaining eight essential food products to keep the market stable and reduce price pressure in the upcoming month of Ramadan. This information was informed in a notification of the Foreign Exchange and Policy Department of the Central Bank on Thursday.
The food products are edible oil, chickpeas, pulses, peas, onions, spices, sugar and dates.
The notification also said that traders will get up to 90 days from the opening of LC for these products. Daily commodities can be imported till March 31 this year.
As a result, the traders can sell the imported products and pay the liability during this period.
Due to dollar shortage in the country, many people are unable to open loans. The central bank has given such an opportunity to import to ensure the supply of daily necessities during the month of Ramadan.
