The police have registered a case in connection with the murder of Lalon Fakir (28), an activist of AKMA Awal, an independent candidate for Pirojpur-1 constituency. However, Lalon’s family complained that the police filed a case without taking the family’s case to protect those involved in the murder.
Last Saturday night, 15-20 people led by a local youth named Babu Sheikh hacked Lalon and seriously injured him on his way home from Kumirmra in Sadar Upazila at a place called Battala. Lalon later died on Monday night under treatment in Dhaka.
Then on last Tuesday night, the Deputy Inspector (SI) of Pirojpur Sadar Police Station, Maksudur Rahman, filed a case with the police station, naming 5 people including Babu and 6-7 others as unknown accused.
However, Hannan Fakir, the father of the deceased Lalon, complained that he went to file a case at the police station, but the police did not take their case. To protect many involved in the incident, the police have filed a case as plaintiffs themselves for unknown reasons.
Hannan Fakir said that after seriously injuring Lalon, he told the police that he would return from Dhaka and file a case at the police station. After going to the police station, the police did not take up his case.
However, denying the complaint, Additional Superintendent of Police of Pirojpur Sheikh Mostafizur Rahman said that the family of the deceased Lalon did not come to file the case on time, so the police filed the case as plaintiff. But Lalan’s relatives can add more accused through the court if they want.
