In the first 22 days of December, the money sent by expatriates to the country’s banking channels reached about 157 million dollars. Its amount in Bangladeshi currency is 17 thousand 185 crore 80 lakh 60 thousand taka (as 109 taka 50 paisa per dollar). Which is about 22 percent more than the same period of the previous year.

This information is known on the website of Bangladesh Bank. Earlier, on 22 days of December last year, 1.29 billion dollars remittances came to the country. Meanwhile, the expatriate income came to 193 million dollars last November.

According to the report, in the first 22 days of December, 13 crore 85 lakh 20 thousand US dollars came through six state-owned bankers. Five crore 47 lakh 20 thousand dollars came through Krishi Bank. 137 crore 19 lakh 10 thousand dollars came through private banks. 43 lakh 30 thousand dollars came through foreign banks.

Meanwhile, expatriate Bangladeshis sent remittances of USD 193 million to the country last November. Among them, 14 crore 42 lakh 60 thousand dollars came through the state-owned banks. And 5 crore 31 lakh 80 thousand dollars through specialized banks, 172 crore 66 lakh 80 thousand dollars through private banks and 59 lakh 20 thousand dollars came through foreign sector banks.

According to Bangladesh Bank, in the month of October, the remittance came to 197 crore 75 lakh 60 thousand US dollars. Which is the highest in the first 5 months of the current financial year. Apart from this, in September and August, remittances of 134 crore 43 lakh 50 thousand dollars and 159 crore 94 lakh 50 thousand dollars came to the country respectively. And in the month of July, remittances came to the country of 197 crore 31 lakh 50 thousand dollars.

Bank officials believe that if such flow of remittances continues, it will cross $2 billion in December. They also said that banks are trying to increase the flow of dollars at this stage of the year.

Several steps have also been taken to increase remittance flow including additional incentives. The benefits of which have started to match. Expatriates are getting Tk 115 against every dollar in the banking channel.
