Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan is participating in the election campaign from prison. His speech is being broadcast by duplicating his voice through AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology. The news agency AFP reported this information in a report.
Leaders of Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) said that since Imran Khan is under house arrest and is not allowed to participate in rallies directly, his speech is being imitated with the help of artificial intelligence technology.
Imran sent a written statement through a lawyer from Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, PTI reported. Later, a four-minute speech was created by imitating Imran’s voice using an artificial intelligence ‘chatbot’. That statement was published online last Monday, and is now being circulated nationwide.
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been in jail since last August after being accused in various cases including corruption and treason. In the meantime, the Election Commission of Pakistan has announced the schedule of the country’s national elections. Elections are scheduled to be held in Pakistan on February 8 next year. PTI has announced to participate in elections under caretaker government even though Imran Khan is in jail.
In his four-minute speech, Imran Khan said, “First of all, I want to thank those who have done this historic work.” Then he addressed the Pakistanis and said, “You may be thinking, what am I doing sitting in jail?” I am committed to true freedom.
Imran Khan’s audio speech has been created by adding pictures of him from different times. The caption of the video reads, ‘Imran Khan’s AI voice is created based on his notes.’
PTI’s social media head Gibran Ilyas said that Imran Khan has no chance to appear in political gatherings. But we have made this video to protest against the way the government is suppressing the leaders and workers of his party. Apart from that, the election campaign will not be complete without Imran Khan.
